Setting Intentions for the New Year: Aligning Faith, Vision, and Community

As we step into a new year, there’s something deeply inspiring about starting fresh with clear intentions. It’s a time to reflect on where we’ve been, where we are, and where we hope to go. Setting intentions isn’t just about creating goals—it’s about aligning our lives with God’s purpose and the desires He’s placed in our hearts.
One of my favorite verses about vision is Habakkuk 2:2-3:
"Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay."
This passage encourages us to write down our visions and trust in God’s perfect timing. But how do we practically apply this? By intentionally reflecting on all aspects of our lives, partnering with God, and taking steps toward the vision He has for us.
One tool I’ve found incredibly helpful is the Wholeness Wheel, which invites us to consider growth in seven key areas:
1. Spiritual: How can you strengthen your connection to God? Maybe it’s through deeper prayer, volunteering, or spending intentional time in His Word.
2. Physical: What can you do to care for your body? Think about rest, movement, or nourishing your health.
3. Emotional: How can you create more peace or resilience in your life? Perhaps it’s about letting go of stress or prioritizing mental health.
4. Social: Are there relationships to nurture or boundaries to set? Community is essential for growth and joy.
5. Intellectual: What new things do you want to learn or create? Exploring knowledge and creativity keeps us inspired.
6. Financial: What’s one way you can bring more intentionality to your finances? Whether it’s saving, budgeting, or investing, small steps matter.
7. Vocational: How can you live more fully in your purpose—through work, passions, or service?

Setting at least one goal in each area is a great way to create balance and start the year with intention.
The Power of Vision and Agreement
The Bible also reminds us of the power of agreement:
"For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." – Matthew 18:20
When we set our intentions in the company of trusted friends or a supportive group, we amplify our faith and accountability. Whether it’s a vision board party, a small group discussion, or a conversation with a trusted friend, sharing your goals can make them feel more tangible and achievable.
This ties beautifully with the idea of the Law of Attraction—the principle that we attract what we focus on. When we align our faith, intentions, and actions, we create space for God to move in powerful ways. By writing our goals, visualizing them, and committing them to prayer, we’re inviting God into our plans and opening ourselves to the opportunities He places before us.

A Fresh Start
Starting the year with clear intentions isn’t just about checking boxes. It’s about aligning your life with God’s plan, pursuing growth, and trusting in His timing. The journey might not always be easy, but with faith, vision, and the support of others, it’s one worth taking.
Take some time this week to reflect on your goals using the Wholeness Wheel. Write them down, pray over them, and share them with someone you trust. Let this be the year you step into the fullness of who God created you to be.
Let’s make 2025 a year of transformation, growth, and purpose—together.
